Is an Unlimited Wash Membership Worth It? The Honest Math

Every car wash will tell you a membership is a great deal. Almost none of them will show you the arithmetic. So here it is, including the part where a membership is the wrong choice.
Start With One Number: Your Break-Even
At Al's Super Wash, every unlimited plan costs exactly twice its single wash. That makes the math unusually easy:
- Good — $10 a single wash, $20 a month unlimited
- Better — $15 a single wash, $30 a month unlimited
- Best — $20 a single wash, $40 a month unlimited
- Ultimate — $25 a single wash, $50 a month unlimited
Two washes a month is break-even at every level. The third wash is where the plan starts paying you back, and everything after that is free. Wash weekly and you're paying about half price per wash; wash twice a week and it's closer to a quarter.
Notice what the math does not depend on: not the season, not the plan level, not a promotion. Two washes. That's the whole test.
Be Honest About How Often You Actually Wash
This is where people get it wrong in both directions. Some pay for a plan they use three times a year. Others insist they don't wash much, then count back over the last month and land on four visits.
A few situations reliably push you past the break-even line:
- You commute daily on Dort Hwy, US-23, or I-75, where road film builds up fast
- You're driving through a Michigan winter, when salt makes weekly washing the minimum
- You park under trees and deal with sap, pollen, or the birds that come with them
- You drive a dark-colored car, where dust and water spots show up two days after a wash
- You have a work truck or a vehicle customers see, where clean is part of the job
If two or more of those describe you, the plan is almost certainly cheaper than what you're already spending on single washes.

The Part the Sign Doesn't Price
The real change a membership makes isn't the per-wash cost. It's that the decision disappears. Nobody stops to weigh $20 against a car that's only kind of dirty — but when it's already paid for, you pull in on the way home, and the car simply stays clean.
A few things go with that at our locations:
- Free vacuums and free air on every visit, not as an add-on
- $1 car-care items — ArmorAll, air fresheners, and the rest
- Contactless payment and no appointment; scan and go
- Family plans, so a second or third vehicle doesn't mean a second full price
Frequency is also better for the car. Washing a light layer of dirt off often is gentler on your finish than letting it bake on and needing an aggressive clean later — especially at a 100% touchless wash, where nothing ever contacts the paint.
When a Membership Isn't Worth It
If you genuinely wash once a month or less, buy single washes. You'll come out ahead, and we'd rather tell you that than sell you a plan you resent.
Garage-kept second cars, low-mileage drivers, and anyone who mostly washes before a road trip fall in the same group. And plenty of people run a plan seasonally — on from November through March when the salt is down, off for the summer. That's a perfectly good way to use it.
The Cheapest Way to Find Out
You don't have to guess. New customers get the first month for $5, which is less than a single wash at any level. Use it like a trial: wash whenever the car looks like it needs it, count the visits, and you'll know your real number by the end of the month.
If you hit three or more, the plan pays for itself. If you didn't, cancel and buy singles — you're out five dollars and you have an honest answer. Stop by Fenton, Grand Blanc, or Dort Hwy whenever you're ready.
